The foundation
LongShortGame is built with Ruby and Ruby on Rails. Their bias toward readable code and developer happiness is still a remarkable advantage for small, stubborn projects.
Authentication comes from Devise; navigation and modest interactions from Hotwire; data lives in PostgreSQL.
The supporting cast
GoodJob, Solid Cache, Solid Cable, Propshaft, Importmap, Puma, High Voltage, Meta Tags, Rack Attack, and the wider Ruby gem ecosystem keep the application moving. Every dependency represents someone choosing to share careful work.
The market archive
The game still carries its original historical stock-price archive, normalized for the revived application. Those old candles are the raw material for every decision—and a reminder that real market history is stranger than invented examples.
The revival
Modernising the original 2019 application was an AI-assisted development effort. That help made it possible to preserve the game’s character while replacing a great deal of old plumbing. The product decisions, taste, and any remaining bad calls are still human.
